PHYS375 is a three (3) credit laboratory course that meets four hours a week. Its primary objective consists of learning physics through expermimental investigation. The topics of study are related to optics and the interaction of electromagnetic radiation with matter. Specifically, you will study the nature of light -- its ray, wave and quantum character. You will use your understanding of this nature to study atomic spectra and the photoelectric effect as well. This course will allow you to develop practical laboratory skills including experimental design and experimental error or uncertainty inherent in all measurement. The format of the course consists of approximately ten (10) experiments. You will develop lab reports for each of these and give two 15 min presentations on the results of two of your experiments. |
