Physics 623, Fall 1996, Dr. Yakovenko
Students' Evaluations
- Prof.Yakovenko really made a very interesting course. I learned
a lot from him, he choosed challenging problems, covered
important topics. I really enjoyed the way he did QM.
Very good I appreciate the work he gave to us.
- Appreciated time instructor would spend to clarify
understanding of individuals.
The textbook is terrible. Also, I think giving points to find
misprints is ridiculous.
I don't think an exam is useful. After all the aim is to pass
qualifier!
Question #5 (Instructor's organiztion of each class): should
avoid discussing one homework when previous one undone.
Question #17 (Textbook): Use another, e.g Landau and
Lifshitz.
- Very efficient towards qualfier exam.
Homeworks were too long, emphasis on quantity may decrease quality
of accumilated knowledge.
Question #1 (Overal quality of the course): absolutely satisfying.
Question #7 (Clarity of explanations): Excellent.
Question #8 (Instructor's interest in teaching the course):
enthausiastic.
Question #14 (Instructor's using the board): need some
improvement.
Question #17 (Textbook): A pain sometimes.
- I like the way the instructor teached the course. It was somewhat
unusual but very useful.
Good physical insight. Nice problem sets.
More rigor!!!
Certain approximations may be familiar to persons working in the
field, but as students we must learn when they are consistent
with exact solutions and when they are not.
- I really liked this course style. It gave me the freedom to spend
more time on subjects I found challenging or particularly
interesting.
- Question #6 (Clarity of explanations): He has the ability to
explain a concept in many different ways; very useful!
Question #11 (Respect of instuctor toward individual students):
very accessible, extremely patient.
