Physics 623, Fall 1995, Dr. Yakovenko
Students' Evaluations
- I learned a lot of knowledge through homework and course
discussion.
- The instructor is an expert in that field.
The use of the board is not good.
- Superior approach to qualifier preparation. Emphasis was placed
on problem solving, not on formula lectures. Overall the best
quantum mechanics course I have ever taken!
- Unusual set up but worked. Professor Yakovenko is a great
teacher-wish I had his class earlier. Lots of work but still
rewarding and interesting. Wish this had been only course this
semester.
Shankar isn't a terribly nice text book. How about Sakurai or
even Landan?
- The instructor put an enormous amount of thought into assignments
which followed a very logical sequence. Assignments were of
excellent general quality. The instructor was available outside of
class which was essential for success of this self-study technique.
Time requirements to solve problems was excessive. Full solutions
would have been helpful to assignments. There was seldom time to
rework problems and fix mistakes on old assignments because new
ones were pressing.
