Here is a brief description of the procedures to use the Tektronix
TDS-360 digital oscilloscope. This text replaces that in the Lab Manual
on p 120 (exp XI) or on p 102 (exp IX). Below is a diagram of the
front face of the scope for reference.
1. Choose Ch 1 and Ch 2 in the VERTICAL CONTROLS. All other channels
can be turned off (if they are on) by choosing the channel (such as MATH
or REF 1) and then pushing WAVEFORM OFF.
Adjust the vertical scale of each to 200 mV/division using the scale
knob. Make sure each input channel is on DC.
2. Connect the discriminator outputs of interest to channels 1 and 2. Be sure to use a 50 ohm terminator and a BNC TEE with the inputs.
3. Set the HORIZONTAL scale to about 100 ns/division. You can adjust it again after finding the signals.
4. Using the TRIGGER MENU button, select the trigger SOURCE to be either Ch 1 or Ch 2, the COULING to be DC, the SLOPE to be "Falling", the MODE to "Normal", and the HOLDOFF to "Set to Min". Carefully tune the trigger level until the TRIG'D led is lit: at the same time you should now see pulses on both the CH 1 and CH 2 traces.
5. If you wish to measure the pulse length or height, use the CURSOR
button in the Miscellaneous
Controls area, then select and move either cursor with the SELECT button
and the General Purpose
Knob.
It is possible to save the scope traces either to an ASCII file or make
a .BMP file of the scope traces, by writing the information to a floppy
disk. See the manual for more information on these features.
