Here are some quick instructions on how to submit your corrected spreadsheets from your dorm room, home computer, etc. You need to use ftp. The file protections are set such that you are not allowed to overwrite your original file, so you will have to give your new file a different name. My preferred names for you to use are something like: <Yourlastname>_<LabX>_v2.xls
1) Start your favorite ftp program and connect
to student.physics.umd.edu. Log in
as yourself using your physics account.
2) go to the following location
/dept/phys/courses/Phys275/submissions
If you are using the DOS
version of ftp, the command is
cd
/dept/phys/courses/Phys275/submissions
3) Go to your section and to the folder that
contains the lab you want to resubmit, e.g.,
cd
0201/Lab4
if you want to submit an updated copy of
your lab 4 spreadsheet.
4) Go to your local directory where your
file is located. Under DOS, this would be
lcd
c:/<yourdirectory>/<Yourlastname>_<LabX>_v2.xls
With most Windows/based programs you can
click your way there.
5) Move the file from your local machine
to student.physics. Under DOS, this would be
put
<Yourlastname>_<LabX>_v2.xls
With most Windows/based programs there's an arrow button or you can drag and drop the file. If this procedure fails, email the file to your TA, and let them and/or me know that it failed. Either way be sure to let your TA know that you have submitted a new file and what it's name is.
New files are due by 6 PM Wed/Thurs/Fri of
the week in which you did the work for the
Mon/Tues/Wed sections, respectively.
