Instructions for camera-ready copy

The ICUPE conference proceedings will be published by AIP Press. Here are some of the more important manuscript constraints from their publishing guide. Preferably, you should bring your presentation both printed out on paper and on a 3.5 inch disk. We would prefer Microsoft Word for Windows format, but if you bring something else, we can probably convert it.

Paper size and margins

Manuscripts should be prepared on 8.5 x 11 inch paper (US letter). All type on a page must fit within 5.5 x 8.5 inches. thus, margins are 1.5 inches left and right, and 1.25 inches top and bottom. If A4 paper must be used, the text must fit inside the size specified, measured from the top of the page.

Number of pages

Contributed posters are allowed up to 2 pages.
Invited posters are allowed up to 8 pages.
Invited parallel talks are allowed up to 20 pages.
Invited plenary talks are allowed up to 20 pages.
Invited conference summarizers are allowed up to 20 pages (and will have a later deadline for their papers).

Type

Please use Times Roman, 12 point. Justify on the left side only. (That is, all type lines up on the left side of the paper but not on the right. These instructions are justified left.) The manuscript should be single-spaced, with an extra half space above a line containing superscripts and below a line containing subscripts.

Abstract

For all papers other than contributed posters please include an abstract of your work. (Contributed posters are short enough to permit the reader to scan for an overview.) Indent an additional two spaces from the left and right margins. Set the abstract in 10 point Times Roman, justified. Drop two lines before your heading or text.

Formats for various elements

First Level Heading: Fourteen point Times Roman, bold, all capitals, centered.
Second Level Heading: Fourteen point Times Roman, bold, cap/lowercase, centered.
Third Level Heading: Fourteen point Times Roman, italic, cap/lowercase, centered.
Fourth Level Heading. Twelve point times Roman, italic, cap/lowercase, followed by a period (full stop), a space and then text. No extra space above or below heading.

Equations: Make your equations centered, the same point size as the text, and with a line pace above and below. Place each equation on a separate line and number them sequentially. Enclose the equation number in parentheses and place it flush with the right margin.
Footnotes: Footnotes appear at the bottom of the page where they are cited, numbered in ten point type. Place a 1/2 point-thick line that is 2 inches long above the footnote.
Tables: Tables should be typed within the text, centered at the top or bottom of the page, soon after they are first cited. Be sure that the data is concisely presented and that any abbreviations used are defined. Type tables in ten point Helvetica. Number tables sequentially. Set the table heads in bold, cap/lowercase. The word "table" and the number should be in ten point Helvetica bold, caps, and with a period. type the table name in Helvetica cap/lowercase. (i.e. TABLE 3. Student Scores) If the table is wider than 5.5 inches, turn it 90 degrees ( so the title is on the left side of the page. There should be no other text on a page with a sideways table.
Figures: Clarity of illustrations is very important. You must have good contrast between objects in the foreground and the illustration's background. Color photographs will not work. Cite all figures in the text consecutively and place the figures at the top or bottom of the page, as close as possible to the first mention. Clearly label your figures and number them consecutively. All figures must have a caption centered 1/4 inch below them. the word "figure" and the number should be in ten point Helvetica bold, caps, and with a period. Type the figure title in Helvetica cap/lowercase. (i.e. FIGURE 4. Students Working with the MBL Range Finder.)

References

List and number all bibliographical references at the end of your paper. References should be in ten point type. When referring to them in the text, type the corresponding reference number in parentheses (1). References should be in the following form:

For a book:

Last name and initials of authors or editors (additional authors type last name last), book title (in italics), place of publication, year, chapter, and inclusive page numbers.

1. Author, A. B., Title of Book, New York, AIP Press, 1995, ch. 4, pp.35-65.

For a journal:

Last name and initials of author (additional authors type last name last), name of journal (italics), volume number (bold), inclusive page numbers, year.

2. Author, A. B., Journal, 34, 56–78, 1993.

For a paper:

Last name and initials of author (additional authors type last name last), title of paper (in quotes), name of publication (in italics), inclusive page numbers, year.

3. Author, A. B., "Title of Paper," in Proceedings of the Conference on (, pp. 45–67, 1990.
