Conclusions

Physics Education Research has shown that students have difficulty learning prerequisites to QM, both in waves and mathematics.
- Many students have mental models of waves that are incomplete or incorrect.
- Students use their mental models to interpret unfamiliar problems as they study more advanced topics.
- It is possible to help students overcome their difficulties.
We will continue to use the same PER cycle as we develop the new QM course.
