Fermions in the vortex core in superfluids and superconductors
Grigori Volovik
(Helsinki University of Technology, Finland and Landau Institute for Theoretical
Physics, Moscow)
Abstract: We discuss fermions localized in cores of different
types of vortices in conventional and unconventional superfluids and superconductors,
including anisotropic vortices, half-quantum vortices, continuous vortices,
etc. The fermion zero modes on vortices give the dominating contribution
to the physics of the vortex state, especially at low temperature. They
determine the vortex mass, the anomalous force acting on vortices, the
thermodynamics of the mixed state, etc.
