Manager, Teaching Support Services
The Department of Physics at the University of Maryland seeks candidates with a PhD in physics and a strong interest in innovation in science education to oversee its world renowned Lecture Demonstration Facility. We are looking for an individual with the vision to modernize this facility and maintain its acclaimed status well into the 21st century by using technology to bring the latest in interactive teaching methods into our classrooms, using computers and animations in instruction, revamping older demonstrations and assisting faculty in developing new ones. The successful applicant will oversee the lecture demonstration staff members, as well as part time student assistants and graduate assistants. The successful candidate is expected to also be a practitioner of these cutting edge teaching techniques, and will teach 2 or 3 one semester undergraduate physics courses per year.

Physical Science Technician III
The Department of Physics at the University of Maryland seeks candidates to prepare and deliver demonstrations, computers and software, and related materials to physics classes. Develop new demonstrations and related materials; update, repair, and maintain the collection of physics demonstrations. Support development and maintenance of the Lecture-Demonstration web site and develop new materials for the web site. Supervise other full time and student employees. Working knowledge of fundamental physics principles is very desirable. Must be able to diagnose problems with electrical and mechanical devices used in physics demonstrations and make repairs as appropriate. Important skills include working knowledge of computers (hardware and software) and audio-visual equipment and peripherals; ability to operate machine shop equipment such as metal lathes, milling machines, and measuring devices; and ability to operate electronic fabrication and test equipment, to design and build electronic circuits and to diagnose problems in circuits.
