Staff
information
As the flagship institution of the University
System of Maryland, the College Park campus relies on a highly diverse
workforce of approximately 6,000 staff employees to promote and support
its mission of teaching, research, and service. Non-faculty employment
opportunities are dynamic
and vary in scope from non-exempt positions in the maintenance, office,
service, and technical areas, to exempt-level administrative,
professional, and managerial positions.
The Personnel Services Department Employment
Office is responsible for the staffing process for non-exempt vacancies
on campus, both for "regular" positions and for positions of a
contingent nature. The Employment Services Office staff are dedicated
to providing campus hiring units with qualified candidates who match
the knowledge, skill, and ability preferences unique to individual
position vacancies within departments.
In addition to collaborating with hiring units to
determine their exact requirements, the Employment Services Office
reviews and certifies applicants for non-exempt positions, provides
departments with "List of Eligible" candidates for vacant positions,
recruits candidates for difficult-to-fill vacancies, and prepares the
weekly vacancy posting. The Employment Services Office is the campus
focal point for placing position vacancy advertisements with newspapers
and journals, often at a reduced fee structure.
The Employment Office staff actively attend job
fairs seeking top quality candidates, while promoting the University as
an employer of choice. The University of Maryland actively subscribes
to a policy of equal opportunity and will not discriminate against any
employee or applicant because of race, color, national origin, age,
sex, sexual orientation, disability, marital status, religion,
political affiliation, or personal appearance. Upon request, reasonable
accommodations will be provided to individuals needing assistance.
