Using WebAssign for Physics 263 Sections 0101-0105 Spring 2003 |
Access: use the address http://www.webassign.net/student.html to log into WebAssign. You will need a username, the institution name, and a password.
Username: your username is that part of your official university email address that precedes the "@" sign regardless of what follows the "@" sign. The institution is "umd".
Password: if you have never been on the system, your password is your student ID number. You will have an opportunity to change your password if you like. If you have been on the system before and have changed your password, it will be the same as it was the last time that you visited WebAssign.
Fee: the department will pay the access fee, but you must be officially registered for the course.
Introductory exercise: follow the prompts to do "Introduction to WebAssign" as your first assignment. Note that pi times something is pi*something, etc. Then do the first course assignment.
Homework: you will have 10 tries until the assignment is due, but each submission of answers counts as a try even if you did not attempt all of the problems. Collaboration with classmates is permitted for homework but each of you will need to calculate your own results because numerical values will be changed randomly for each student. Always produce a well-labeled diagram and a symbolic result before substitution of numerical values! It is a good idea to view and print the weekly assignment each Monday morning and then work all the problems on paper during the week before submitting any answers. At the end of the week or on the weekend you can submit your answers and make corrections, if needed. Do not just use your tries to boost your score -- learn from your mistakes! Keep a neat file or notebook of your homework for review later, including notes on lessons from previous mistakes.
