5/22/06: Individual Course records have been posted on WebCT. Use your password to review your own record. The record includes your Course letter grade (LG), your final rank in class (Rnk/40), your overall Course Score (CsSc) (computed as described under GRADING), your Normalized Final Exam Score (NFnl/146.4) {where 146.4 indicates the maximum possible score which one would
have achieved who answered all 120 final exam questions correctly}, your Raw Final Exam Score (RawFinal/240 = 2X(No correct),
your No. Correct in the final exam (Fnl:NoCrrct/120), Your Normalized Test Score (NTS) {computed from your Adjusted Test Score, AdjTS, {which in turn is obtained by dropping your lowest (normalized) hour of test scores)}, your Normalized Lab Score (NLS/76.7) {computed from your adjusted Lab Score, AdjLab/100, obtained by setting all raw lab scores equal to or greater than 80% of 232 =185.6, the Max possible, equal to 100, and scaling scores <185.6 proportionately} , your Raw Lab Score(out of 220), your Normalized HW score (NHS/80.6), your adjusted HW score (AdjHW/100) (adjusted to 80% of the Max, 132, like the Lab scores mentioned above), and your Raw HW score (RHW/132). In addition, all of the records previously published on Exams I, II and III and the Early Warning Letter Grades (EWG) presented early in the semester. Please call at 301-405-6118 if you need help understanding your record, and leave your telephone number and a good time for me to call you back if I am note here when you call.

5/11/06: {This announcement about the Q/A session of 5/11/06 was lost in error on 5/18/06.}
**********

05/05/06: Regarding scores re-normalized to an average of 70 and a standard deviation of +-20: 50 % of the scores are expected to
have values greater than 70, 25 %, greater than 83.6, and 16.7% greater than 90 =70+20. Therefore a student who consistently scores
70 can expect typically to be near the B-/C+ break point, and one who consistently scores 83.6 can expect to be near the A-/B+ break point. In other words, renormalized score between 70 and 83.6 are in B country, and scores greater than 83.6 are in A territory.

**********

5/02/06(B): HW#12, most recently announced as due on MON 5/8/06, will instead be converted to a self-grade HW, not to be handed in, because of the fact that no opportunity will remain after the collection and grading of this HW to return the graded results to you.

( Note that the "C" in the label <CRExII/120> indicates that the grading error in problem #41 as been corrected in the Raw Score presented, and the "120", that 120 was the maximum possible value of this score. Also NExII/114 indicates that the maximum raw score of 120 would have provided the maximum Normalized score of 114. Our Normalized scores always are set to have an average of 70 and a Standard Deviation of plus/minus 20.)
**********

4/3/06: The Exam II Answer Key had an erroneous entry for Problem #41. The correct answer is A(0), not F(5). If you answered F,
one unit has been subtracted from the <Number Correct> printed on you personal ExamII summary, reducing your Raw Score by two
points. If you answered A, one unit has been added to the <Number Correct> printed on you personal ExamII summary, increasing your Raw Score by two points. The new class average is 66.4, and the new Standard Deviation is ± 17.3. The corrected ExamIIAnswerKey has been posted to replace the original. The posted Exam IISolutions presented the correct solution for question #41.

3/7/06B: A reminder about STUDENT ACADEMIC INTEGRITY
Please recall that, although we recommend that you learn physics from whomever you can and however is convenient, we ask
that when you come to write material (e.g. your HW solutions or your lab report) to be submitted under your name, you should write from your own knowledge. Specifically, you may (and should!) check the text's answers, review the HW Solutions posted here or in the glass case outside of Room 1410, and discuss the physics with other students, with the TA and with the professor if you wish, but you should write your submissions out of your own knowledge. If your submissions resemble those of another student or the posted solutions so closely as to lead a reasonable person to conclude that you simply copied them, then the credit they earn will be reduced appropriately, perhaps by a factor of 1/2, if we cannot tell who copied from whom, or to zero if the copying was from a published source. Also repeated incidences of such events will raise the question of whether honor code violations should be charged. If it comes to that, we shall strive to impose the greatest possible academic penalty. Your personal integrity is too valuable to chisel away.

Sign in with your password at <https://www.courses.umd.edu/> to see your own scores. The Early Warning Letter Grades were based solely upon

"80% is Enough" rule (described further in GRADING POLICY).
