Suppose you have two pieces of tape, each 12 inches long and 1/2" wide.  Each right-angle crossing of two pieces of tape takes up a 1/2" by 1/2" square, of which there are 24 on one piece of tape.  Can you make 24 such right-angle crossings, without folding or tearing the tape?  To what surface would you stick the tape?
