You can use the system free until the 14th day of classes. After that, you will need to buy an access code. This
can be done
online with a credit card. You can also buy a code at the University Book Center. They are stocked at the "Info
Desk;" ask for "WebAssign Access Code." You should receive a card with a scratch-off paint under which is the
code. The card should cost about $8.50.
To log into WebAssign, use the address http://www.webassign.net/student.html. You will need a username,
the institute name and a password. Your username is that part of your official university email address that
precedes the "@" sign regardless of what follows the "@" sign. The institution is "umd" and, if your have never
been on the system, your password is your student ID number. If your ID number starts with 0, omit that 0. You
will have an opportunity to change your password if you like. If you have been on the sytem before and have
changed your password, it will be the same as it was the last time your visited WebAssign. Follow the prompts to
do "Intoduction to WebAssign 2002" as your first assignment. Note that pi times something is pi*something, etc.
Then do the first course assignment. For most homework assignments, you have twenty-five tries until the
assignment is due. Although I encourage you to work with your classmates to enhance your learning potential and
experience, the numbers for the problems will be changed randomly for each student you so each of you will need to
calculate your own result. For WebAssign quizzes, you will only have one try.
